Interior designers name eight home trends losing favor for 2026

A survey of interior designers published in December 2025 identified eight home design trends falling out of favor heading into 2026, from fast furniture to all-white kitchens. Designers agreed the shift reflects a broader move toward longevity and genuine functionality over spaces styled primarily to photograph well for social media.
Fast, disposable furniture topped the list of trends designers said they expect homeowners to increasingly reject, alongside overly coordinated rooms where every element matches too perfectly, and open-concept layouts that designers noted no longer suit how many people actually live and work at home. The findings echoed the broader shift toward comfort and craftsmanship also highlighted at that fall’s High Point Market, suggesting a consistent industry-wide move away from trend-chasing minimalism.
