US shoppers set holiday ecommerce spending record at $257.8 billion

US consumers spent a record $257.8 billion online during the 2025 holiday season, from November 1 to December 31, up 6.8% year-over-year, according to Adobe Analytics data covering over one trillion visits to US retail sites and 100 million individual products across 18 categories.
Mobile devices drove the majority of transactions for the first time at this scale, accounting for 56.4% of online sales, up from 54.5% the year before, with mobile’s share peaking at 66.5% of sales on Christmas Day itself. Adobe attributed the record spending partly to deeper discounts than the previous year, with electronics discounted an average of 30.9% off list price, toys 29.6%, and apparel 25.1%, each exceeding the prior year’s discount levels.
