Rivian recalls over 100,000 vehicles, most of its production to date

Rivian Automotive announced in September 2026 that it is recalling approximately 100,700 vehicles, representing a majority of the electric vehicles it has produced to date, over a software issue that can obstruct the rearview camera display. The recall covers certain 2022-2026 R1T pickup trucks, 2022-2027 R1S SUVs and 2027 R2 models.

The scale of the recall, covering the large majority of Rivian’s total production, underscored how a single software flaw can cascade across nearly an entire vehicle lineup in a way that wasn’t possible with older, less software-dependent vehicles. Rivian said the issue would be addressed largely through an over-the-air software update, which for many owners meant the recall could be resolved without requiring a trip to a service center at all.
