English Championship clubs spend a record £269 million in summer transfer window

Clubs in England’s second-tier Championship spent a combined £269.2 million in the summer 2025 transfer window, which closed on September 1, while receiving £375.8 million in player sales, according to a tracker of every confirmed deal across the division. The net transfer spend across the league came to £106.6 million.

The biggest individual sales included Ipswich Town’s Omari Hutchinson moving to Nottingham Forest and Southampton’s Tyler Dibling joining Everton, both high-value departures that helped fund incoming signings elsewhere in the division. Southampton itself was among the window’s more active spenders, paying £7.8 million for Brazilian winger Leo Scienza from Heidenheim, while a flurry of loan deals closed out the window’s final hours, including Manchester City defender Issa Kabore joining Wrexham on loan.
