Tail Docking Banned in California

Tail docking is the term used for the practice of cutting off an animal’s tail (usually done without any painkiller). Ouch, right? It’s a common practice in slaughterhouses in the United States and totally unnecessary.

Well, if you’re a cow in California, you can stop shaking in your hooves. This year, SB 135, introduced by Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez, made tail docking illegal in California and we think that’s pretty big news!

Celebities involved in the effort included Kim Basinger, Alicia Silverstone, Bill Maher, Bob Barker, Emily Deschanel, Fred Willard, Ginnifer Goodwin, James Cromwell, Kristen Bell, Mariel Hemingway and Valerie Harper.

Up next: every other state in the US!
